Program: Navigating Conflict as a Leader
Strong leadership isn’t about avoiding conflict—it’s about navigating it well. This session will help build the skills needed to handle difficult conversations with empathy, courage, and purpose. Through hands-on exercises and real-life scenarios, participants will learn how to manage emotional reactions, challenge assumptions, and move conversations toward solutions. You’ll walk away with practical strategies to lead conversations that build trust, accountability, and connection.
Speaker: Elizabeth (Liz) Borman
Liz Borman brings over 15 years of public sector human resources experience, with a focus on strategic recruitment, employee engagement, and organizational development. She currently serves as the HR Assistant Manager of Classifications and Examinations with the State Universities Civil Service System, and she has spoken at regional and statewide conferences on topics such as recruitment innovation and effective communication. Elizabeth holds a Master of Public Administration from Governors State University and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Illinois. She is an SPHR-certified professional, holds a Strategic Human Resources Leadership Certificate from Cornell University, and also serves as Immediate Past President of the Central Illinois Human Resources Group. When not talking shop, Liz enjoys cooking, crafting, and pretending her ever-growing project list is under control.

Registration Information:
This event will be hosted in person and via Zoom. The location is at the Lodgic Coworking, 1807 S Neil St, Champaign, IL 61820
Registration includes lunch and is $25.00 for in-person members and $30.00 for in-person non-members.
The registration deadline for the luncheon is Monday, February 16, 2026 at Midnight. Refunds can also be issued up until this date.
Cancelation and Refunds:
If payment is not received by final registration date, or a cancellation hasn't been made, registrants are responsible for the luncheon fee. If you need to cancel your registration, please email Laura Carta.
Non-Members: We love having non-members join our lunch! You are welcome to register on your own, be a guest of a member, or email our Outreach Chair, Caitlyn Floyd to be a guest of the board!
